Sasha is finally home! His life has completely changed and he is now safe with people who love and care for him. Two weeks ago Sasha was living in a nearby institution, he was one of many just another body to take care of. Now he is home, he is loved and given individualized care. Eight months of documents, training, and way too much waiting has finally come to an end.

Sasha has already exceeded any and all expectations we've had for him. Each day he opens up to us more and more. The first day he was wary of touch and eye contact, fully withdrawn in his own world. Over the last two weeks, we watched him become comfortable with hugs, hand-holding, and even full-on cuddles. He loves to be held and gives little kisses, on nice days he will roll a ball around outside, he is wholly and completely beautiful and loved.

While Sasha has been adjusting to his new life Anton has been learning how to once again share space and attention with another boy. He has been working through many big emotions and feelings. It's hard for Anton to express emotions like sadness and fear, almost always he will express it through anger. This has made for a little bit of a rocky week, but he has really made an effort to self-regulate and have good days. We are so happy to have him with us.

It's now garden season here in the village. This week we dug trenches, turned the garden, and planted our tomatoes, broccoli, and peppers. It is so nice to be outside with everyone. The boys play in the backyard while the rest of us work. We listen to music and have conversations. The garden is as much a social space as it is a workspace.

Here in our village, we have a lot to look forward to each day, and although each day brings about its struggles at the end of the day both Max and I go to bed feeling overjoyed that we get to be here with these boys.
